Maison Effat\u00e0 is located in what used to be the rectory of Notre Dame Cathedral in the center of Calais, a city in northern France where large numbers of transients hoping to reach the United Kingdom converge. The House houses frail men who are offered protection, health care, shelter, as well as recreational activities. The basic idea is to be not just a guesthouse, but a place for sharing and relationships. Since its inception in January 2024, the House has hosted more than 150 transients and has also provided occasional hospitality to family members of shipwreck victims.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
