Statement of the Regional Superior (Europe and Africa) of the Scalabrinian Missionaries on the election of His Holiness Leo XIV
“With deep joy, on behalf of all the Missionaries of St. Charles – Scalabrinians working in Europe and Africa, I wish to extend our most sincere congratulations to His Holiness, Leo XIV, on his election to the Chair of Peter.
In this time of great challenges and hope for the universal Church, we recognize in him a sign of God’s providence and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The mission now entrusted to him as Successor of the Apostle Peter inspires us with a renewed commitment to service to migrants, refugees and people in forced mobility, in the footsteps of our founder, St. John Baptist Scalabrini.
We are certain that His Holiness, also thanks to his being a child of migrants, like his predecessor, will know how to continue to be a voice for the poor, the forgotten and the discarded, promoting an outgoing Church, capable of welcoming, protecting, promoting and integrating every human person, regardless of their origin, culture or religion.
Our congregation assures constant prayer and full readiness to cooperate with His magisterium for the good of the Church and migrant humanity, which is today a living sacrament of Christ’s presence.”
