XENÍA

Xenia

The project Xenía: Stories of Human Mobility, Interculture and Pathways to Global Citizenship is an initiative promoted by ASCS in collaboration with the Municipality of Chieri. The initiative stems from the need to respond to the challenges of contemporary migration, enhancing the richness generated by the encounter between cultures. The project is part of the framework of the call “Education for Global Citizenship 2025” of the Piedmont Region.

Project Objective.

The primary objective is to promote a culture of welcome and international solidarity through Education for Global Citizenship (ECG). Specifically, the project aims to:

  • Raise awareness of the issues of human mobility, human rights and global inequalities, in line with the goals of the 2030 Agenda (MDGs 8 and 10).
  • Countering stereotypes and discriminatory narratives about migration phenomena through critical thinking.
  • To foster integration and intercultural dialogue within the local Chieri community.

Target audience and beneficiaries

The project targets different segments of the population in the Chierese area:

  • Students: about 400 young people from secondary schools (Liceo “Monti” and Istituto “Vittone”).
  • Youth (16-30 years old): involved in non-formal education activities, scout and parish groups.
  • Citizenship: the local community, including households and people with migrant backgrounds, through public events and intercultural dinners.
  • Teachers and Volunteers: about 30 teachers and several activists under 30 led by ASCS coordination.

Planned actions

Activities are developed on three levels of involvement:

  1. Formal Education: workshop paths in schools using participatory methodologies such as “The Game” (role-playing game on the Balkan route) and film screenings. With the proposal for some classes to participate in ” a three-day educational visit to the French-Italian border (Oulx and Briançon) to meet the solidarity realities.
  2. Non-Formal Education: organizing public events (performances, lectures), “Crossover” educational meetings with experts, and intercultural conviviality moments.
