Brushstrokes of life

Hi, I am Elena and I returned in December from Guatemalawhere I lived a period in Casa del Migrante Scalabrini in Ciudad de Guatemala.

I left to work with the missionaries who were there helping in the reception of migrants, deported people and in developing the pedagogical area given the increasing amount of migrant children passing through the house. I left with the desire to meet, learn, listen and make myself available, and indeed it turned out to be such a time: I met and listened to thousands of people and stories, I immersed myself in a culture that opened new horizons, I lived with people who taught me different ways of looking at the world, I fed my heart with colors singing hugs and words I did not know…I came back different and grateful!

One evening at the beginning of an activity on emotions and colors a migrant boy shared the gray and emptiness he felt around him…at the end of the work he told us that thanks to our time together the gray had been colored green (tranquility) and yellow (joy).

Therefore, I also wish ASCS to continue to be a place to meet, to listen to exchange, and to be able, through the activities and experiences it offers, to continue to allow itself to be painted and give ever new brushstrokes from and to the world around us!
