Feeling at home

I am Rita and I have been working in ASCS for nine years! Thinking about it more I feel like I’ve been in this forever because my greatest passion has become my job!

I am a social worker and as of today I coordinate the Rome offices of ASCS.

The first meeting took place in the sunny land of Capitanata, in 2010, with one of the people who, in my opinion, best embodies the charism of the congregation, Archangel.

He would come weekly to meet with migrants in the CARA in Borgo Mezzanone (what I call “my baptism of fire”) and he would also meet with us who, in that place that had little that was welcoming, were trying to bring a little beauty and humanity.

After various work experiences and while watching the work of ASCS from afar, I was offered to help open Scalabrini House 634 in Rome.

Perhaps I did not initially imagine the power we had in our hands, but the years have shown it clearly to me.

In 2018 I decided to leave for a period of international volunteering and, as only ASCS and the Scalabrinian Congregation knows how to do, I was welcomed in Tijuana to the Migrant House for a period of service.

I wish ASCS to remain as beautiful as it is and to continue to be hope for the people who are lucky enough to know it (volunteers, migrants, professionals) and to always give the confidence that I have felt daily even in the least simple moments.

A thank you, huge, for giving me the opportunity to “blossom” professionally and continue to be a stimulus for my growth.

ASCS will forever be home for me!
