As we have told you in recent months, the Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN) along with theASCS – Agenzia Scalabriniana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo, have kicked off Rebuilding Hope, Fundraising Campaign to support local churches in Turkey and Syria to support the many people and families affected by last February’s earthquake.

A few weeks ago we shared with you anupdate coming from Syria, to tell the many donors, partners and Scalabrinian missions who have decided to support this Campaign, how the funds raised will be used.

Instead, today we want to share with you an update coming from Turkey, telling you about the different projects that the Local Church is implementing and that we would like to support through Rebuilding Hope.

In Iskenderun (Alexandretta), apartments are being rented for homeless families of which 2 apartments are for Syrian families. In addition, we would like to support these families through the distribution of the following products:

• Food for 1,500/2,000 people per month including breakfast vouchers
• Toilet packs for 1,500/2,000 people per month
• 4,000 water bottles per month
• Baby and adult diapers, totaling 5,000 packs in one year
• 5,000 fans
• 2,000 electric and coal stoves for the winter period
• Coal for 1,000 families
• Health care
• From September, scholarships and computers for 300 students
• Supplies and household appliances for homes for 150 families
• Canteen for 150 people per day

Toilets with 25 toilets and 25 showers, laundry and ironing facilities with 25 machines and irons, children’s playground were activated in the Kyk – Iskenderun area.

In Ovakent, 72 families are being supported by providing the following services:

• Camp rental for 12 months
• Channelling of Water and Light
• 72 showers and toilets
• 72 refrigerators, fans, stoves and kettles
• 8 washing machine and irons
• Construction of 2 meeting rooms with tables, chairs, TVs and air conditioners
• Playgrounds for children and youth
• Fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, freezer and air conditioner
• 4 containers for convenience store, bakery, barber shop and hairdressing business
• Sewing workshop for 60/70 people
• 100 goats for 20 families
• 200 hens for 20 families
• Animal fodder
