What we did | April25
April was an intense month: we crossed borders, listened to stories, asked questions and shared reflections. Each stop left us with something: a new look, stronger bonds and a renewed desire to walk alongside people on the move and communities.
On the border with 5B – Oulx and Susa Valley
Three days of walking with 5B of the technical tourism address of Istituto Vittone in Chieri, among trails and reflections, to the border with France. With backpacks on our shoulders and attentive gazes, we talked about migration, borders and passports. The “Take Your Choice 2” project, supported by the City of Chieri, transformed the border into an open-air classroom: a place for discussion, awareness and shared growth.
Crossover: migration between rights, demands and citizenship
In Chieri, the appointment with Crossover, the dialogue space on migration, is back. The Italy-Albania agreement was discussed with lawyer Alberto Pasquero (ASGI), reflecting on how political choices affect people’s lives.
In Turin, Crossover bridged neighboring but loosely connected worlds. The issue of caporalism in the wine sector in Alba ignited reflections on labor, rights and social justice.
In Milan, on April 28, a meeting was held still dedicated to the Italy-Albania agreements, with the special participation of an activist from Mediterranea.
Lampedusa: remembrance, hope and dialogue with the younger generation
Lampedusa is not just a place: it is a symbol. It is landing and departure, encounter and separation. During our days on the island, we talked with middle and high school students about walls and bridges, rights and hopes. The initiative is part of the Pilgrims Lampedusa project, promoted by the Scalabrinian Missionaries Europe-Africa with ASCS and local partners.
The Game
A game that is not just a game: The Game is an immersive experience that simulates migration routes, with all the challenges and risks they entail. An intensive training day sponsored by the Intercultural Center of Turin and ASAI, to learn how to really put yourself in the other’s shoes.
Unbroken Humanity – Bonate Sopra
Two significant moments in the municipality of Bonate Sopra related to the photography exhibition Unbroken Humanity, which tells stories from the Balkan routes. On April 17, The Game activity took place, while on the 23rd the exhibition was presented to a group of citizens, in the context of the April 25 events, in a bridge between historical memory and current events of migration.
ConFine Como
Some young people experienced the “Boundary” on the stretch between Como and Chiasso, part of an intercultural animation course. An opportunity to experience firsthand what it means to live between physical and symbolic barriers.
ConFine Oulx
Another weekend on the border, another step toward awareness. The Border Camp in Oulx offered the opportunity to reflect together on human mobility, rights and welcome. A learning experience lived in places where stories of resistance and hope cross each day.
Courses and activities: continuing education
Throughout the month of April, currently active training courses continued, such as Italian A1 and A2, English Beginners and Intermediate, After-School, Yoga Basic and Intermediate, Job Desk, Craft Workshop (Craft Mirrors), Conversation course. Courses in Rome are also progressing with the commitment of volunteers and youths.
The World at Home: music art and flavors from around the world
In collaboration with the Church of Mount Carmel, in April we held the last meeting in preparation for the World at Home project, which will come to life in May and June. In this ninth edition we will explore Nigeria, Cuba, Poland and Iran. Check out the full calendar of events here.
Wasi and Remix
April 5: Together at the Church of Carmel, the “One World, One Thousand Parents” meeting was held, followed by a workshop dedicated to cross-cultural parenting with participants from the Remix and Wasi projects.
In the same month, the adult Remix workshop series at the IBVA Foundation concluded with a meeting on parenting styles, which was much appreciated by mothers and participants. Not only that. The second Remix youth workshop at CAM Scaldasole was also staged, with a focus on “Intercultural Identity.” We remind you that you can light new Sparks of Dreams again this year by by donating your 5×1000 to ASCS, indicating your Tax ID: 03133600241 In your tax return.
