20 YEARS OF ASCS: LET’S LIGHT SPARKS OF THE FUTURE TOGETHER!

Press release

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, ASCS launches its Christmas campaign to continue to imagine a future of welcome and hope.

Migrants, refugees and local communities: it is with them that ASCS – Agenzia Scalabriniana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo, the social, operational and cultural arm of the Missionaries of St. Charles – Scalabrinians working in the Europe and Africa Region, has been carrying out projects and activities in Italy and around the world for 20 years, to ignite dreams of hope, welcome and future. And it is precisely to celebrate its 20 years that the association is launching its new #ScintillediSogni campaign, presenting three stories, that of Sara, Hashim and Grace, which are emblematic of all the community work carried out over these years.

Twenty years ago, in fact, ASCS was born from a visionary founder, Father Beniamino Rossi, known as “the Ben,” who always recalled how beautiful it was “to dream the dreams of others“. Indeed, we all need to dream, we need to feel that we are doing something extraordinary for someone else’s life.

Thanks to its partners and supporters ASCS stands by migrants, refugee women, refugees and local communities on three areas of intervention: shelter projects and activities, outreach and development cooperation. In recent years, nearly 500 volunteers trained, more than 300 sent abroad, more than 2,000 young people involved in border service camps; 830 migrants and more than 700 women accompanied with psychological support in the last year’s projects alone.

With the Sparks of Dreams campaign, ASCS aims to strengthen the interventions active in Italy and around the world, turning each donation into a concrete action. From the semi-autonomy of Scalabrini House 634 for migrants and refugees, to outreach activities in Italy (Chieri, Milan, Rome and other cities), to projects in Europe, on the Balkan route, to more than 10 active projects in Uganda, Guatemala, South Africa and others. The protagonists of the campaign are Sara – a young ASCS worker in Italy, Hashim – a Pakistani boy who, after a period of reception at Casa Scalabrini 634, today has achieved full autonomy and lives in Rome with his family, and Grace – a Sudanese refugee in Uganda active in her journey of empowerment; three people, three different stories united by the strength of those who do not give up and are committed to building bridges and not walls.
