Sparks of Dreams in Action: What We Did | January25
The month of January was full of meetings, excitement and initiatives that ignited new sparks of dreams in our community. Each activity was an important piece in our efforts to promote awareness, dialogue and inclusion.
Take Your Choice: a journey of awareness and action
The Take Your Choice project, funded by the City of Chieri, involved young people in raising awareness about human mobility and interculturalism. Thanks to the support of a large group of volunteers, we implemented the first step of the project: 10 classes from Chieri high schools (Istituti Monti and Vittone) participated in interactive workshops on freedom of movement and The Game, a role-playing game simulating the experience of a migrant along the Balkan Route.
But the journey continues! On Feb. 26, screening of a migration-themed film for the classes involved at Cinema Splendor. In March, 20 students will have a service and training experience at Rifugio Massi in Oulx, a symbolic place of passage and welcome. Special thanks to the City of Chieri for making this initiative possible!
A project that grows together
In 2024, a valuable collaboration was born between Trame, Accogliamo Senza Confini, and ASCS to offer Italian language classes to Trame’s young people who have recently arrived in Italy. In Chieri, we organize three weekly groups to teach Italian to asylum seekers, thanks to the support of passionate volunteers. But it is not just about lessons: these meetings are opportunities for exchange, relationships and friendships.
We realize this project thanks to the contribution of the Chierese Community Foundation. One small step at a time, building bridges, not walls. Learn more.
January activities
In Milan, as part of the Remix project, the “Intercultural Experts” workshop was held: we explored our linguistic identities and reflected on the intercultural competencies we recognize ourselves.
Also in Adult Remix, “One World, One Thousand Parents,” a workshop on cross-cultural parenting, was held with the participation of nine women who challenged themselves to reflect on this issue.
Also in Cosenza, the Remix group met to plan February’s Remix Weekend and activities in schools.
In Milan and Rome, the restart of the training courses – with English, Italian (with a new class!), after-school, yoga, driving school and tailoring classes-has been a wonderful adventure for many of the people involved. Every day, students and students, volunteers and volunteers meet, weave stories and shape their dreams. New offerings include Craft Workshops (paper, jewelry, mirrors and fuxico), Cloth Painting, and Mini Art History Course with the Friends of FAI Association.
What is human mobility? What does it mean to migrate?
We talked about it with male and female students from Liceo Kant in Rome. It was a time of exchange and reception of doubts and curiosities about the world of people on the move. On the same evening, the students of Scalabrini House 634 welcomed volunteers for dinner to start the year together again. Food from around the world, meeting and conviviality to strengthen our network of relationships and start the 2025 of Casa in the best possible way!
Crossover25 is off to a great start!
The first meeting was held on Friday, January 24, at the headquarters of Pastorale Migranti – Archdiocese of Turin. Martina Cociglio and Silvia Chicco, legal workers of Diaconia Valdese, explained the legislative process that people seeking asylum in our country must follow, dwelling on how long the waiting times are often. Vasiriki Konatè enriched the meeting by telling us about her own experience as a migrant person in Italy. At the conclusion of the meeting, an aperitif could not be missed!
On January 29, we kicked off the Crossover meetings in Chieri. A large and attentive audience participated in a deep reflection on the borders of Europe and the stories of those seeking a better life, amid dreams and difficulties.
With the participation of Elisa Meneghini, Letizia Santhià and Federica Chiechi, who shared with us their experience at the border, we explored the fate of those who pass through Ceuta and Calais. A valuable opportunity to better understand the challenges related to migration, with an aperitif to make the discussion even more convivial! Crossover Chieri is made possible thanks to the contribution of FCC – Fondazione della Comunità Chierese and the Municipality of Chieri.
