Storytelling, rediscovery, sharing: the Remix journey continues. What we did | February25
This month, Remix opened up new avenues of encounter and storytelling. Stories of migration, identity and parenting came to life in workshops dedicated to youth and adults, weaving threads of memory and dreams for the future.
Moms from IBVA Foundation’s Spazio AllenaMente service immersed themselves in their roots, bringing to light the beauty of their culture of origin and the value it has in their way of motherhood. In Project Aisha and Mariam Mosque workshops, sharing their own migration stories revealed all the strength, courage and resources of extraordinary women.
Young people also found space to voice their cross-cultural experiences in Remix workshops. And in a special evening at the theater, with Pensiero Stupendo by Didi Garbaccio Bogin, the theme of second generations sparked an intense dialogue about identity, prejudice and the deep need to feel accepted.
Meanwhile, in Cosenza, the Remix folks got together for a special weekend! What happens when Cosenza, Afghan, Moroccan, Nigerian, Gambian, Foggia and Turin flavors and words are woven together? A color palette is born that celebrates the beauty of mixing, step by step. Thanks to the boys and girls who enthusiastically bring the intercultural experience out of the circle. Thanks to the Auxiliary Sisters, who walk with us with passion, and to those who believe in diversity: Caritas, Migrantes of Cosenza and the San Pancrazio Association, which welcomes us into its ecosystem of proximity.
February was also a busy month for the project Crossover: migration explained well! In Milan, together with No Name Kitchen, we delved into what happens along the Turkey-Bulgaria border. In Turin, with Bagni Pubblici via Agliè and the Maangi Fi Street Group, we explored the Barriera di Milano neighborhood and its thousand identities. In Chieri, with lawyer Irene Pagnotta of ASGI, we asked what it really means to talk about “female migration.” Discussion spaces created to make complex issues accessible, without simplifying them, but giving them the right space and tools to understand them.
In Milan, within the project Wasi, we organized a meeting with LILT and the Italian-Peruvian Community to talk about cancer information and prevention, because health is everyone’s right.
Meanwhile, The Game has crossed new borders, reaching as far as Ceuta! With the Cardijn Association, we brought the Spanish version of the game to a school in the city for the first time, which continues to raise awareness among so many people about the Balkan Route. Also at Scalabrini House 634, The Game involved more than one hundred young people from universities in Rome and the U.S. in an immersive experience on migration and reception, closing the day with a dinner prepared by the residents of the House.
February was also the month of new starts: after an open day crowded with people curious to get involved, the courses both in Rome and Milan, with many new activities and novelties, such as a Quilling workshop-the art of paper shaping-and a mini art history course.
A busy month, full of encounters and discoveries, where every voice found its space. And the journey continues.
