Summer proposals 2021
ASCS summer proposals are designed for young people aged 18 to 30. Through them we want to contribute to rediscovering the Good even in the midst of pain and violated human rights, touching Life with our own hands, to nurture what drives us to put ourselves in service with others.
The goal is to build a community of people who welcome each other, caring for each other and the Planet, to inhabit spaces of co-responsibility capable of generating new processes of transformation and promoting encounters in order to build a society in which differences coexist by integrating, mutually enriching each other.
Through the individual proposals we will touch on the realities of Italy’s geographical and existential borders-Ventimiglia, Trieste, Rome, Latina and Milan. Through service and sharing, we will be supportive of people on the move, meet witnesses, and experience moments of reflection and exchange to cultivate spaces of gratuitousness and co-responsibility.
Designing and implementing these proposals are the Scalabrinian Missionaries in Europe through ASCS – Scalabrinian Agency for Development Cooperation – together with various local partners.

Pushing to the border, we will meet those who live solidarity every day, tending the feet of migrants who, after weeks of grueling journeys through the mined forests of Bosnia and Herzegovina and forced to flee from Croatian police violence, attempt to realize their coveted dream: to reach Europe. We will meet at the Port of Trieste the reality of Stella Maris, which is committed to assisting workers at sea, and the Coast Guard, which is involved in safeguarding human life at sea, the safety of navigation and maritime transport, as well as the protection of the marine environment and its ecosystems. We will reflect on the plight of the rejected and deported, past and present, through a visit to the Risiera di San Sabba in Trieste, the only example of a Nazi Lager in Italy.
Mixitè is a European camp for sharing and service with migrant realities in Rome and Latina. In particular, activities will be carried out alongside migrants, supporting various Associations working in the area so that each person can feel welcomed and respected and able to spend their potential for the common good.
Exchanges is the Festival of workshops that will take place from August 26-29, 2021 in the historic center of San Remo, born out of the need to defeat intolerance toward the different by promoting encounters through food, performances, films and music. We will participate in the Festival by offering workshops on the theme of human mobility and, in the following days, we will move to Ventimiglia to meet with the realities that are daily engaged with people in transit along the border.
