What we did | May-July25
Three months dense with voices, faces, stories. Between workshops, cultural events, walks and reflections, we continued to build bridges between people, communities and territories. May, June and July taught us once again that migration is not just geographical movement, but a profound human process that touches everyone and everyone.
Sparks of Welcoming: 10 years of Scalabrini House 634
Scalabrini House 634 has turned 10 years old. An anniversary that is not just a date, but a celebration of a place that has welcomed hundreds of people, woven stories and built bridges. It has become a community. On June 14, more than 300 people gathered to celebrate: former acolytes, volunteers, partners, and lifelong friends. Together we said, “This house is mine too.” This celebration was a gift. An interweaving of experiences and generations. And the spark… continues to shine because a home that welcomes changes the world.
The World at Home: encounters that leave their mark
The ninth edition of The World at Home came to life in Milan with evenings dedicated to four countries: Nigeria, Cuba, Poland and Iran. Among traditional dishes, music and stories, each meeting was an opportunity for mutual discovery and appreciation of differences. Thanks to the collaboration with the Carmine Church, we experienced evenings full of warmth and beauty.
In a time marked by wars, fears and ever-rising walls, The World at Home reminds us that there is another way of being in the world: that of listening, meeting, and peace. Here, every dish shared, every dance done together, every word exchanged becomes a small gesture of resistance to hatred and indifference.
Thank you to those who participated, those who cooked, danced, told, organized. To those who came out of curiosity and left with a new story in their hearts. To those who believe that Milan can truly be a home for all.
Are you from Milan and want to help in the organization of the 10th edition of the project? Contact us at [email protected]. Organizational meetings will start in October.

Crossover: citizenship, Palestine and Malta
Our discussion space on migration has crossed Italy.: on May 23, in Turin with Ayoub Moussaid, and in Forlì with more than 90 people; on May 24, in Rome and online, focus on the migration crisis in Malta; on June 25, in Milan, in collaboration with Mediterranea, an evening dedicated to Palestine, its dramas and the strength of communities in exile. Crossover is taking a summer break and will restart with next year. All info at ascs.it/crossover.
Training, departures and new paths
On May 10-11, in Chieri, we experienced the training weekend for animators and animators of summer camps Through: two intense days of confrontation, preparation and team spirit. On July 9, in Milan, we gathered for a moment of sharing with our volunteers and volunteer leaders: listening, gratitude and that desire to make a difference that accompanies us every day. In these months, many volunteers are leaving for Scalabrinian missions abroad, choosing to put themselves at service in places where there is most need. But there are also many opportunities to volunteer in Italy, in Milan, Rome, Chieri and other areas where we are present with our activities. If you would like to join us, write to us: [email protected]
We found ourselves
Once again this year’sannual meeting of ASCS men and women workers was a valuable time to look each other in the eye, share experiences, reflect and dream together about the future. From June 27-29, we gathered in Bassano del Grappa, where ASCS was born in 2004. Walking through the corridors of the Scalabrini Institute added a touch of excitement and memory. With the inspiring guidance of Alessandra Santopadre, we walked through past, present and future. Thank you to the entire team for the energy, dedication and spirit of sharing that you bring every day. Let us continue to build together a more open, welcoming and inclusive society.
Youth Jubilee: on the way to meet, dream, build
This week in Rome, the pilgrims and humanity on the way were young people. Young people arrived from Scalabrinian communities and parishes in Italy and around the world to experience intense days of encounter, spirituality and service. At Casa Scalabrini 634, dozens of them chose to approach the topic of migration not only with their minds, but with their hearts and hands. They listened to stories, welcomed faces, shared concrete gestures with those who cross borders – visible and invisible – every day.
On August 2, in the Scalabrinian parish of the Most Holy Redeemer in Valmelaina, in front of more than 300 people, we narrated the project Unbroken Humanitya: a living network of welcome, relationships and rights. A dream come true through the participation of so many. On the same occasion, we inaugurated the photo exhibition “Unbroken Humanity,” set up in the parish from July 29 to August 3: a deep and delicate look at the journey along the Balkan Route, told through the images of Barbara Beltramello. Each photograph speaks of dignity, resistance and solidarity. And invites us, with simplicity, not to remain indifferent.
Civil theater and mobilization
In Milan on May 17, we participated in the presidium at the Anti-Remigration Summit to defend the rights of people on the move. On July 9, in Parma, we staged “Men or Corporals,” a monologue produced by ASCS and performed by Francesco Stella. Part of the Unsustainable 2025 festival, the show tells the story of Jasnoor, a laborer from Punjab, and courageously tackles the issue of caporalism. Find out more at ascs.it/uominiocaporali
