What we did | November24
Intercultural Engagement
In November, it kicked off the ASCS project in the high schools of Chieri (A. Monti and B. Vittone), with educational and experiential paths dedicated to human mobility and interculture. Thanks to the collaboration of attentive and involved teachers, the project involved about ten classes in the three-year school year, offering interactive workshops of two hours each.
Through dynamic activities such as games, dialogues and reflections, students explored the value of diversity as an asset, overcoming stereotypes and prejudices. A particularly significant moment was the use of “Thand Game”, a role-playing game that allowed children to identify with the real experiences of migrants along the Rotta Balcanic, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges faced during the journey. In collaboration with the “We Welcome Without Borders” group of Chieri Cathedral Parish, a Welcome Dinner was held on Sunday, November 17 : a special moment of sharing and encounter through food and cultures.
A passionate team of cooks and volunteers prepared typical dishes from different traditions-Indian, North African, Romanian and South African-that delighted about 120 participants in an atmosphere of conviviality and dialogue. In the afternoon, some participants took part in a cooking workshop to learn, experiment and contribute to the preparation of the dishes, discovering flavors and stories from the world together. The project Remix Milan continues with many initiatives dedicated to community discovery and involvement. Among them:
- The intercultural walk “Via Padova, a window to the world,” where, thanks to the accompaniment of Migrantour, participants explored the most significant places in the multi-ethnic neighborhood of Via Padova, a symbol of Milan’s cultural richness.
- The Nov. 30 Art Therapy Workshop brought together young people from the Remix, Aisha Project and GMI (Young Muslims of Italy) groups, creating a space for expression and collaboration between different cultures.
November was also a month full of activities at Casa Scalabrini 634, where we welcomed two groups of young people from the area, offering them the opportunity to learn about the House and explore issues related to human mobility. Through the immersive experience of “The Game”, the young people retraced the stories of those who face the Balkan Route, reflecting on denied human rights, injustices and the real stories that often remain invisible.
Integrated Welcoming
Great news from Milan: ASCS, along with other associations, has won the bid to manage CAM (Multidisciplinary Aggregation Centers) in City Hall 1, an area where ASCS has been active for years. For the biennium 2025-2026, we will bring three key projects to the 4 CAMs in City Hall:
- Wasi, dedicated to women and the local community;
- Remix, for the involvement and empowerment of the younger generation;
- Scalamusic, a new proposal that combines music, inclusion and growth.
The network remains our strong point to offer concrete opportunities to the people we accompany. For this reason, we continue to participate in the Reception Table, coordinated by UNHCR, together with the other Milanese entities that support migrant people. We also participated in the presentation meeting of the Qu.Bi. network of Municipality 1, a key initiative to support families in difficulty through targeted activities and projects. Among our main allies in the area is the Carmine Church, where ASCS actively participates in the Pastoral Council of the Santa Maria del Carmine community. This collaboration allows us to publicize our initiatives and strengthen ties with the local community. The project Wasi continues with great participation. As part of the fall meeting series, we organized:
- The meeting Let’s Prevent Gender Violence, dedicated to recognizing the signs of violence and responding with awareness. We shared information about support networks available nationwide and in Milan to help women victims of violence.
- The screening of the film “La teta y la luna,” followed by a moment of sharing and discussion among the participants, creating a space for deep and authentic dialogue.
A Scalabrini House 634, many young people have just begun their journey toward independence. In particular, we welcome very young people from foster homes, who are facing the coming of age as a time of great change. Meanwhile, in Rome, a new meeting of the Integrated Reception Network, with a focus on crucial issues such as employment and housing, which are fundamental to building a future of inclusion and autonomy for the people taken in.
