September ASCS: meetings, restarting and building bridges
September was a month that smells of new beginnings, positive energy and community. Between events and moments of sharing, ASCS continued to cultivate spaces where welcome becomes relationship, art becomes a universal language and solidarity is transformed into concrete action.
A month that reminded us that building bridges and breaking down walls is not an isolated gesture: it is a shared journey that we make together with you.
Sowing justice: the experience in Capitanata
Across Capitanata: cultivating justice
From Aug. 31 to Sept. 6, ASCS youth were protagonists of an intense experience among the agricultural fields in the province of Foggia. Alongside Caritas Cerignola and Altromercato, they met migrant farmworkers and learned firsthand about the challenges of seasonal labor and exploitation.
A week of listening, service and deep reflection to understand that even in places of toil one can and must sow dignity, justice and hope.
Chieri: Festival of Welcoming between Peace and Flavors of the World
Women for Peace and Welcoming that Unites
On September 18, together with Tra Me and Muse, we took part in the touching silent torchlight procession Women for Peace: extinguishing hatred and igniting hope. A simple but powerful gesture: walking together to say no to violence and walls, building a path of light that unites different faces and generations.
A few days later, on September 21, Chieri was filled with fragrances and colors! With Progetto Accogliamo Senza Confini and Santa Maria della Scala Parish, we organized cooking workshops and a dinner open to all citizens. From the morning, four kitchens came to life with recipes from around the world; in the evening, a large table united cultures and flavors. Cooking and conviviality: the simplest and most beautiful way to really get to know each other.
Milan and Rome: art, support and new beginnings
Milan – Wasi: hearts and colors
On Saturday, September 27, a new meeting of the Wasi project, the space of welcome and psychological support for migrant women, was held in the Church of Carmel. “Hearts and Colors” was an intense time of sharing, art and flavors, allowing participants to rediscover their values and rediscover a strong sense of mutual care and support within a circle of women.
Rome: art as a language of encounter
In Rome, on Sept. 26, our civil theater show Men or Corporals was staged at Villa di Faonte, registering a sold-out show! It was an intense evening that brought to the stage the reality of exploitation in the camps, inviting the audience to reflect on dignity and humanity through Jasnoor’s story.
The next day, Sept. 27, ScalaMusic Academy opened the new training year with an open day full of energy and smiles. Between dance, singing and theater rehearsals, participants rediscovered that at ScalaMusic you don’t just learn a discipline: you learn how to live together, listen to each other and grow in harmony.
Daily reception and restart of courses
Rome: Scalabrini House 634
On September 30, in Centocelle, we held a game of soccer to welcome newcomers and say goodbye to those who had finished their journey. A simple afternoon where the ball became the perfect pretext for building bonds and feeling part of a community that never stops growing.
Restart of free courses
With the end of September, we launched ASCS free courses and workshops that will start in October in our Rome and Milan locations. Thanks to the invaluable efforts of many volunteers, we offer opportunities for growth and integration through Italian, English, computer science, dance and more. Small spaces where learning together becomes a way to feel part of a more inclusive city.
Ignite a Spark of Change with ASCS
Now it’s your turn! Our activities are restarting in full swing and we are in immense need of new energy.
In Milan, Rome and Chieri, we are looking for volunteers who are ready to donate some of their time to teach, join us in hosting or animate activities.
Your commitment, even a small one, is a precious spark that can change someone’s life. And yours as well.
