What we did | April24
Development Cooperation
In the beating heart of Calais (Maison Effata) and Ceuta (Centro San Antonio)., our work to support people on the move continues unabated. In particular, in both contexts, we have activated an overnight reception part for people in the most vulnerable condition since January 2024. To learn more about the situation in these transit places, the April issue of Altreconomia features a report on the situation in Calais, by our Davide Pignata (text) and Letizia Santhia (photos).
Between those who have left and those who have yet to do their volunteer work abroad, the last weekend of the training course for those who want to serve as volunteers in the Scalabrinian Missions.
Integrated Welcoming
It was concluded at Scalabrini House 634 the series of meetings with male and female students of Notre Dame University. Over the past few months, more than 60 young people have come to learn about the shelter project, the House youths and the experiential activity The Game, through weekly meetings and community dinners, during which they were able to reflect on human mobility, what it means to be a migrant in Italy, but also in the rest of the world, according to the various experiences brought by the visiting U.S. students. The same was true for the twenty young people from a Swiss parish group from Bern who came to visit, bringing with them curiosity and questions.
What is the value of family relationships in the care of lone and newly arrived migrant minors? In the integral reception of people facing pathways to achieving autonomy, we often struggle with this question. We participated in the seminar of CNCA – National Coordination of Welcoming Communities and discussed the importance of the family network of origin of young people facing this path of reception in facing the challenges of adulthood in a migratory context.
Intercultural Engagement
Everything is ready in Milan for the 2024 edition of The World at Home project. From May 10 to June 21, with a calendar full of meetings and cultural proposals, the 8th edition of The World at Home will take place.: a journey through music, art and flavors in the “world that lives in Milan.” We will get to know four communities closely: Argentina, Japan, Bulgaria and Tunisia. April saw the conclusion of the 2024 of ConFine. From the 25th to the 28th we were in Ventimiglia and Trieste. With the two volunteer groups, we set out to immerse ourselves in the ever-changing world of the border. We encountered many stories of commitment, courage and resistance in a context of contrasts, injustices, the places not places. We have met looks that have given us back Life, people who have allowed us to enter into deep relationship with ourselves as well, giving us new points of view. Thank you to all the volunteers and female volunteers who have challenged themselves by opening themselves to listen to a reality that cries out loudly.
Next event: Through24, summer proposals for service, training and sharing in migratory and intercultural contexts. To see all the dates click here.
The workshops of the Scalamusic Academy. On April 6, at the Scalabrinian parish of the Most Holy Redeemer in Rome, the young students and their singing, dancing and acting teachers continued their training in preparation for the end-of-year artistic events scheduled for June 8 and 9. Sweat, enthusiasm and many hours in the rehearsal room to be able to best share the joy of the meeting.
It was a Sunday full of speaking, sharing and workshops in Chieri with the Turning Project . We talked about climate and climate models, dialogued about nuclear power and renewable energy. In the afternoon, thanks to the presence of Priscilla Robledo we actively participated in some workshops on the theme of Fast Fashion. E’ was an opportunity for exchange and education for all the boys and girls involved to be able to reflect on current issues. Special thanks go to all the associations with whom it was possible to build events like these.
The workshops of the Remix project continue in Milan. In April, a group of young people tried their hand at the art therapy tool, in collaboration with Sara Sayed of the Aisha Project.
